Fe Y Alegría

Bolivia

One of my favorite data analytics courses at SJU was the Data Mining Service Learning Course that I took Fall of 2020. A service learning course is just like any other college course, but with an additional 6-week long project in service.

My class worked with Fe y Alegría in Bolivia. Fe y Alegría is a Jesuit-run non-profit organization that creates programs for underprivileged school students throughout Latin America.

For this project, I cleaned student survey data to identify which schools were most impoverished and in need of better, more targeted programs to support their needs. I started with a large, disorganized data set in Spanish and was able to clean the data, format, and interpret it for meaningful insights.

I then got the opportunity to present my findings. I was able to provide the director of the program and his colleagues with my recommendations from the insights gathered from the data (all virtually AND with a language barrier!)

Excerpts from my presentation…

Using Tableau, I analyzed and visualized the data.

Here is an example.

I could not include my actual Tableau workbook from this project, but I have included a mock-up on my Tableau Public page.
